Happy Inventors’ Day (& Happy Birthday to Thomas Edison!)

Happy Birthday to Thomas Edison, who was awarded the patent for the “electric conductor” in 1892, the beginning of wiring and cabling.

Thomas Edison

Edison described his invention as insulation for the wire to make it waterproof and fireproof. It consisted of 3 parts:

Conducting wire
Braided cotton separator surrounding the wire
External covering made of a rubber compound

He took precautions to protect wiring from the hazards of electricity as wired household appliances were about to become mainstream.

Happy Inventors’ Day to all of the inventors out there!
