What is cable flexibility?

Cable flexibility is the characteristic for a cable to bend under pressure from an external force. Flexibility is one of the most requested cable characteristics when it comes to custom cable. Conductive’s experience with providing custom cable solutions has allowed for the creation of a wide range of high flex cable options including MEDI-FLEX™, ARC-FLEX®, EVO-FLEX®.

What makes a cable flexible?

While there are several factors that can impact the flexibility of a cable, stranding and insulation directly correlated to flexibility.

Thinner stranding for a conductor means a higher strand count. A conductor with a higher strand count will be more flexible than a conductor of the same awg but with less strand count.

The insulation and jacket type can also affect the flexibility depending on the material choice. From thermoplastic to thermoset, each offers a range of variances for desired flexibility.

Designed with medium to high strand count, Conductive’s VACUUMFLEX® utilizes proprietary Flexxon™-S polymers to counter flex fatigue and remain flexible even in low temperatures.
